Master Confidence and Take Charge of Your Goals with Practical Steps: Written by Kevin Ogle

For working adults juggling careers, relationships, and personal goals, confidence building can feel hardest right when it matters most. The core tension is familiar: motivation shows up, then confidence barriers take over, self-doubt impacts spirals, inconsistent effort, and fuzzy priorities that turn plans into stalled projects. These goal achievement challenges often look like laziness on the surface, but they’re usually personal development struggles happening underneath the daily grind. Naming what’s actually blocking momentum makes progress feel realistic again.

Quick Summary: Build Confidence and Hit Goals

Start daily confidence habits that create small wins you can build on.

Set clear goals and break them into doable steps you can start today.

Use mindset shift techniques to challenge self-doubt and choose more supportive thoughts.

Make positive lifestyle changes that reinforce your confidence and momentum.

Take immediate confidence boosters that move you from planning to action.

Small Habits That Build Confidence Every Week

Confidence grows when you keep small promises to yourself, especially on days when motivation is low. These habits turn big goals into repeatable actions, so you build momentum, learn from feedback, and trust your follow-through over time.

Two-Minute Morning Win

What it is: Pick one tiny task and finish it before checking messages.

       How often: Daily

Why it helps: Starting with a win trains your brain to expect follow-through.

Habit Stack Starter

What it is: Use habit triggers to attach a goal action to coffee.

       How often: Daily

Why it helps: It reduces decision fatigue and makes consistency easier.

Evidence-Based Self-Talk

What it is: Write one “I can” statement backed by a real example.

       How often: Daily

Why it helps: Proof-based affirmations feel believable and strengthen self-trust.

Ten-Minute Progress Log

What it is: Track one metric and one lesson in a notes app.

       How often: Weekly

Why it helps: Visible progress keeps goals concrete and reduces discouragement.

Sunday Reset Reflection

What it is: Review wins, choose one focus, and schedule your next step.

       How often: Weekly

Why it helps: Planning ahead protects your priorities when life gets busy.

Turn a Business Dream Into Reality: Launch in Clear, Simple Steps

Once your weekly habits are steady, putting that consistency into a real-world goal, like starting a business, can build confidence fast. Launching a venture takes focused action: validate your idea, choose a business structure, and then handle the key paperwork and compliance that make it official. Choosing a limited liability company (LLC) can help protect your personal assets and keep your business finances more clearly separated. If the admin side feels intimidating, using an online formation service like ZenBusiness can help you set up your LLC without the expense of hiring a lawyer. From there, you can apply the same step-by-step approach to other areas of life, fitness, food, calm, and career, starting today.

Build Resilience with a Simple Daily Upgrade Plan

This is the same build-as-you-go method, applied to your body, mind, and work. By stacking a few small, repeatable actions, you create quick wins that make bigger goals feel doable.

  1. Choose a beginner fitness routine you can repeat
Start with a simple plan you can do three days this week, like a 20-minute walk, a short bodyweight circuit, or beginner strength videos. Keep the bar low on purpose so you can show up consistently and collect proof that you follow through. If motivation is shaky, use the less than 2 minutes rule to start by just putting on shoes or rolling out a mat.
  2. Set up nutritious meal planning for fewer decisions
Pick two go-to breakfasts, two lunches, and three dinners you like, then write one grocery list that covers them. Prep one helpful thing today, such as washing produce, cooking a protein, or portioning snacks, so weekday choices become almost automatic. This reduces decision fatigue and keeps your energy steadier for goal work.
  3. Practice one relaxation technique daily
Choose one method you will do at the same time each day, like 5 minutes of slow breathing, a short stretch, or a quick guided meditation. Treat it as training your recovery system, not a luxury, because calmer days make it easier to persist when plans change. Track it with a simple checkmark so you can see your streak build.
  4. Outline a realistic career transition plan
Write a one-page plan with three columns: your target role, the skills you need, and the next smallest action. Then schedule one career move this week, such as updating your resume headline, reaching out to one contact, or completing one lesson. This turns vague worry into a path you can walk.
  5. Review weekly, then tighten one knob
At the end of the week, note what felt easy, what felt hard, and what you will keep exactly the same. Adjust only one variable, like adding one more walk, swapping one dinner, or moving your relaxation time earlier. Small tweaks protect consistency, and consistency is what builds confidence.

Common Questions About Confidence and Goals

Q: What are some simple daily habits I can start right now to boost my confidence and feel more motivated?
A: Pick one tiny promise you can keep daily, like a 10-minute walk, a two-sentence journal entry, or making your bed. Track it with a simple checkmark so you see proof of follow-through. Motivation often shows up after action, so start even when you do not feel ready.

Q: How can I overcome feelings of being overwhelmed or stuck when trying to improve my life?
A: Shrink the problem into a solvable piece by identifying the issue in one sentence. Then list two possible causes, choose one small experiment, and set a 15-minute timer to begin. Afterward, note what changed so you can adjust instead of quitting.

Q: How can making small changes to my diet and exercise routine impact my overall confidence and well-being?
A: Small upgrades stabilize energy, which can reduce irritability and help you stick with goals. Start with one reliable meal, add a protein or fruit, and drink water before coffee. Pair it with light movement you actually enjoy so it feels supportive, not punishing.

Turn Small Confidence Wins Into Real Progress Toward Goals

Confidence can wobble when goals feel big, progress feels slow, or a setback starts rewriting the story. The steadier path is the approach practiced here: growth mindset reinforcement, clear intentions, and small confidence implementation that keeps momentum alive. Applied consistently, these moves create positive behavioral change that shows up as calmer decisions, higher follow-through, and long-term well-being benefits. Confidence grows when the next small action becomes your default. Choose one 10-minute action today and repeat it tomorrow, using self-empowerment strategies to protect the streak. This is how change becomes stability, resilience, and durable growth over time.

How Women Can Advance Their Careers and Reach Their Dream Roles (Featured Blogger Kevin Ogle)

Success looks different for every woman — but one constant is the desire to grow, lead, and be recognized for the value you bring. Whether you’re early in your career or aiming for the C-suite, building your path with clarity, confidence, and strategy can change everything.

Define what success means to you — not what others expect.

Build a strong network and ask for mentorship early.

Learn to advocate for your worth with data, not emotion.

Keep learning new skills — tech, leadership, communication.

Don’t wait for permission to start your own thing.

Key Growth Strategies by Career Stage

Ask, Don’t Wait — How to Navigate Growth Conversations

Too many women assume hard work automatically leads to recognition. It doesn’t. Prepare to negotiate your value using specific results (e.g., “I increased customer retention by 12%”) instead of vague contributions. Start tracking your wins weekly. Use simple tools like Notion, Google Sheets, or even your notes app. Those receipts matter when performance reviews roll around.

5 Steps to Move Toward Your Dream Role

  1. Clarify your “north star.” Write down what you want your career to look like in 5 years — title, impact, income.

  2. Get visible. Speak up in meetings, publish thought pieces on LinkedIn, or contribute to professional communities.

  3. Cultivate sponsors, not just mentors. Mentors advise — sponsors open doors.

  4. Build resilience. Rejection, slow progress, or bias — it’s all part of the process. Bounce forward.

  5. Audit your environment. If your current company doesn’t value growth or inclusivity, prepare your exit plan — with intention.

The “Own It” Era — Starting Your Own Business

There comes a moment when some women realize: climbing someone else’s ladder just isn’t the goal. Entrepreneurship offers autonomy, flexibility, and creative fulfillment — but also risk.

One smart step? Simplify the setup. Platforms like ZenBusiness help you form an LLC, design a logo, build a website, and manage finances — all in one place. You don’t need a massive budget; you need momentum.

Pair that with reading The Lean Startup for strategy to brand your ideas visually.

The Power Moves List

Find mentors who look nothing like you — diversity of experience equals depth.

Negotiate early and often — the gender pay gap starts with the first job.

Say “no” to roles that don’t serve your longer vision.

Use an all-in-one business platform if you’re exploring independence.

Document your expertise: blog, podcast, or online workshop.

Build “social capital” before you need it. Attend conferences, engage on Eventbrite or Meetup.

Learn financial literacy — try Ellevest or Mint for personal growth.

FAQ — Navigating Work and Ambition

Q1. How do I ask for a raise without sounding aggressive?
Frame it with data. Use phrases like, “Based on market benchmarks and my recent results, I’d like to discuss aligning compensation.”

Q2. What if my company doesn’t support women in leadership?
Leave, strategically. Companies that resist diversity limit your growth ceiling. Research inclusive organizations on Glassdoor.

Q3. I’m balancing family and career — is that even possible?
Yes, but redefine balance as “rhythm.” Some weeks lean into work, others into life. Tools like Todoist can help manage both.

Q4. How do I handle imposter syndrome?
Name it, reframe it, and act anyway. Confidence grows from doing, not waiting.

Featured Product Highlight — Elevating Your Workspace

Let’s talk about productivity. If you often juggle multiple projects, consider upgrading your workflow with Trello. It’s a simple, visual board system that helps organize career goals, side hustles, or team projects. Bonus: it integrates with Slack, Google Drive, and calendar tools for seamless collaboration.

Glossary

Sponsor: A senior advocate who actively champions your career.

Imposter Syndrome: Feeling unqualified despite success.

Glass Ceiling: Unseen barriers preventing advancement for women.

Equity: Fair opportunity and representation — not identical treatment.

Soft Skills: Communication, empathy, and leadership — often undervalued but career-defining.

Every woman’s career journey is a mosaic — built from resilience, mentorship, courage, and sometimes, rebellion. The key is not just climbing the ladder but building your own staircase. So, wherever you are: take the next small, bold step. Your dream role isn’t a destination — it’s a direction. Keep walking.

Day 4 of the Holistic FLYness Challenge: Restoration

Day 4: Restoration
Affirmation: I love myself enough to do what I need to do to thrive and rest.
Activity: Give yourself permission to restore your mind, body, and spirit. You have been worrying too much, anxious, fearful, and on edge. Please take a break today and indulge in radical self care. Create that homemade spa day, take that restorative yoga class on YouTube, lay in your pajamas all day, give yourself a comedic relief and just relax.
Introspective Questions: How many hours of sleep do you get nightly? Do you take naps/break throughout the day? What restorative coping mechanisms do you need to implement during this stressful time?

4 A.M Ramblings

"I hear them screaming', want me back, oh
I thought you didn't believe me, I was wack, oh
You want the in between Fellini, white and black, um
Well, I don't know I feel a way, about your actions
What can you offer me, apologies
Security, amazing publicity
Or cult-status obscurity" - Jean Grae, You Don't Like It (So What)

You ever just laid in the bed and have some heavy wish on your heart, mind, and spirit? Can't shake it. Can't ignore it. You just have to put the pen to paper or fingers to the screen and just rambling on. Ideas and thoughts are not going to be perfect, cohesive, or comprehensive because when it come so fast in your mind, it is rambling. What are Ramblings? Rumblings are struggling or sprawling haphazardly; unplanned: a rambling old house. 2. (Of speech or writing) lacking a coherent plan; diffuse and disconnected.

Often, we are often afraid of the solitude of ramblings that we often run to social media and have someone who probably doesn't care validate or invalidate our Ramblings because we live in a world in which we have to run to someone or something to say "Hey is okay for me to ramble on about this?" Hmmm. It is okay to ramble on about life because it is okay to be human and it is okay to get things off our chest without the criticism, judgment, and approval of others. I guess this is what this blog post is about... The random 4A.M. ramblings that we all experience.

Here goes my unapologetic, unashamed, unadulterated, and uncensored 4 A.M. Ramblings. If you feel this post cool and if you don't feel it and never could take your mask and talk about your Ramblings cool. I still love you and you are still down with the tribe.

I am laying in bed can't sleep because I am turned inward and reflecting on my current mindset. For the past nine months or so, I have been functioning at low capacity because I was lying to myself, hiding behind my work, not showing up for myself, my husband, or obligations because I wasn't being the best version of myself. I was literally and figuratively beating myself down psychological and emotionally because I truly haven't dealt with my losses, misfortunes, mistakes; and the how did I get here again.

I compared my current life to those snapshots of the idealistic life of social media. I have holistically beat down myself and my husband because we couldn't keep up with the appearance of vacation year world around the world. We didn't have a home to brag about or entertain in like so and so. We didn't have the money to throw a full out wedding affair like so and so!

I was bombarded by falsehood and a snapshot of reality that I suffered in silence until I said enough was enough. How was I so deep in depression, anger, and envy that I totally checked out which cripples my day to day function? I mean from the outside you think I am doing it well. I got the husband. I got the blog. I got speaking engagements. I am taking photos and doing videos to coach others how to get money and live a passionate and purposeful life while I was slowly dying inside. I am not in alignment of being my best version of self or being FLY because I am chasing the societal viewpoint of success. I am chasing the snapshot of folks who I barely know or use to know the version of success and not basking in my own success.

I watched this YouTube video which sparked this post. In the video, the person spoke about validation and self-esteem and I clutched my pearls because I was craving that outer validation from folks versus validation me. I was an active participant in my life for the wrong reasons. I wanted the money, fame, and accolades but not realizing I was so unhappy and so insecure. I just wanted to be a cool kid because deep down inside I felt a few voids that needed to be filled. I felt that I wasn't always the coolest because I was direct, clear, focused and assertive about my life. I always felt that I wasn't polished enough for my ultra feminine "friends" and those professional folks who I have to rub elbows with just to get business and probably don't obtain their business. I went against my own mission for my life: you are the round the way girl who enjoys, sports, hip hop, sneakers, talking trash, reading, techie-ish, wing night, and tomboyish. Like I truly alter my entire life to be down with whom and for what? I alter the way I talk because folks couldn't get down with my dialect because I don't sound like I'm from Boston so I must be lying or ignorant. I was constantly defending my writing, speaking and presentations because someone had an issue with how I worded something, sounding too raw, just mad at their own ish, but I took ownership of their ish and my ish which became too unbearable. At certain points in my life I got down with the get down because I didn't want any issues of being too rough, too Bossy, how is she educated but she doesn't follow the Black educated professional protocol. So I filter my life, rarely showed up for the true Andrea Camille Stallworth Imafidon and got lost in the shuffle of filtered snapshots of unrealistic that kept me nonviable and undervalued.

I remember my husband asked me what happened to that girl who was once determined, carefree, and secures within self, girl.  I had to take a step back a recognize that that girl is still within I covered it with trying to be down with the cool kids, whoever they are because the cool kids are just a false sense of image and often forget they are imperfect and trying to keep up with the other cool kids. I am all set with trying to keep up with the fake facade and fake coolness.

Peace, Love, and FLYness,

Get Out Your Feelings, It's Just Social Media

“Forget about 'Going Viral' and 'Go Give Value'.” ― Bernard Kelvin Clive

We are living in a fantasy world, filled with hopes of going viral, becoming an overnight success with a huge check and delusion of grandeur of happiness. We live in an attention craved,  ADHD, microwaveable society that receives validation through... social media. Social media is an amazing thing because you can connect with long lost friends, network, build a business and receive information through it. However, you should use social media wisely because you can give it permission to overtake your life which can leave you addicted and empty.

I woke up this morning and did my usual routine of checking all my social media accounts to see what's going on, who did what and complete business stuff. Even when you have the intentions on doing something productive, you find yourself on social media wondering how did you get there? What was your original plan to go online or on your phone? My all time favorite what was I suppose to do again? Getting back to my story...this morning I caught up in the rapture of validating myself through likes, follows and pretend friends.

But on this particular morning, I was extra emotional in my feelings (and no I am not on my cycle) when I discovered some "unlike" my Facebook business page and "unfollow" me on Twitter. As I sat there in my lonely thoughts, I actually got in my feelings and starting questioning myself, why? Now, I knew my mind and emotions was playing tricks on me because I also stated Googling, "Why people "unfollow" and "unlike" your page. I had to put on my big girl panties to self-explore and soul search this empty emotion I was feeling.  I asked myself why are you getting upset about this?  I had to dig deep to see where did this emptiness of validating from others came from. I realize that I wasn't validating myself, my hard word and good deeds. I was literally in the boxing ring by myself with my lonely thoughts, beating myself up over a facade. That was uncomfortable and difficult to admit but in order to grow you have to acknowledge your darkness and find the light of the lesson.

Since the Summer, I have did amazing work for my community, graduated with my certification in Personal Development and Executive coaching through CaPP Institute, was selected to speak at a high profile conference for women of color in 2015 and I won a business pitch idea contest! Wow...you have to be courageous, vulnerable, fearless, creativity to believe in yourself and putting yourself out there with limited experience with blessings from The Almighty, Jehovah. How dare I put my confidence  on the line and receive my validation through social media? I am already validated and confident enough to know who I am!

When I tapped into my inner essence, was still and listen intuitively, I realized I don't celebrate my success whether it is small or large. I just stay in the moment momentarily and keep it moving right after that. I don't give myself a pat on the back and say good job. I rush onto the next project, repeat and onto the next.  Honestly, looking in within and getting to the root of the insecurity, was difficult to admit but I had to soul search and shift my mindset and start validating me first rather than being praised by likes, comments and retweets from social media. Social media is like the coldest winter, you recognize the beauty of connecting with people from all over the world but you start to despise the coldness, criticism and bitter you may receive from those who don't know you on a personal level.

Living a social media world is filled with fly by night success (so we think), perfectly painted pictures filled with flaws and facades and fake love. We often become confused because we wear various mask in which we don't even know who we are anymore. Hence, why we turn to social media to validate our dopeness and remain sleep tho. No, wake up, stay woke and do the inner work.

My challenge for everyone is to step away from your technology and social media and validate your dopeness, cultivate your inner essence, desires and recognize that you are great enough even with your flaws. We need to actually celebrate our success wholeheartedly and in the present in a humanistic manner through using our interpersonal and social skills versus being robotic like by automatically liking or commenting on a status despite the nature of it. Let's pick up the phone and start having conversations instead of sending a inbox or direct messaging one another. Let's go to a dope concerts and enjoy the moment rather than having our phones out, taking video or photos, let's enjoy celebrating in the moment rather than taking a "selfie" and being the first person posting it on social media. Let's just enjoy the moment with our actual family and friends who love and care about our well being versus being "unlike", "unfollow" or "unfriend" because you post too much, your information is irrelevant and other nonsense! Stop believing the hype and trusting everything that is posted on social media. What happened to common sense, researching and going to the actual source? Stop allowing social media and people to dictate your feelings and start recognizing, Who You Are: One dope individual!

Thank you rocking with Brown Girl From Boston, we appreciate you!
XOXO,
Drea

My question to you: Are you an avid social media user? Do you allow social media dictate your feelings? Share your comments, I would love to hear from you!

Shift Your Mindset from Poverty to Possibilities and Prosperity!

“When you can shift your inner awareness to how you can serve others, and when you make this the central focus of your life, you will then be in a position to know true miracles in your progress toward prosperity.”  -Wayne W. Dyer

Are you going through life basically struggling to survive, walking with your head down scared to look in the mirror and face reality? Many of us are striving to basically survive. Our mindset and our environment play a major role in our survival or thriving. Many of us possess a poverty consciousness which means we don't even like ourselves and we often validate ourselves through other poverty conscious people who also don't like themselves. We were not created to struggling, we were created to prosper.

How is your mindset? Does your mindset match your environment? Is your mindset filled with suppression, oppression and lifeless?  Is it filled with life, hope, and prosperity?

Three ways to shift your mindset from Poverty to Prosperity:

1. The Power of Our Words:  The words we speak over our lives have power. Words become things and things have influences within our life. Therefore, if we keep proclaiming how poor we are, we will actually remain in a poverty state of mind and environment. We need to speak and receive positive words and let them enter into our life without a rebuttal. We need to surround ourselves with individuals who are going to pour truth, love, and vitality within our lives and we also need to provide the same to others. Optimism is key to shifting your mindset from poverty to prosperity.

2. People in Environment (PIE): As a young social work major, I remember learning about the Person in Environment (PIE). The person in Environment basically discusses how one will adapt to the environment that the individual is placed. If we are residing within an impoverished environment doesn't mean we have to possess a poverty mindset. We can still prosper within an improvised environment by shifting our mindset and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, courageous and hopeful.  You don't have to be a product of your environment! Even if you are in a prosperous state of mind, you could possess an improvised state of mind by being selfish, negative and playing the blame game blaming others for our current situation. Look at various people with riches and fame? They may be prosperous but many are existing with a poverty state of mind due to greedy, loneliness, and other toxicity within their environment. Being worthy instead of worthless!

3. Assessing your lonely thoughts: Many of us are afraid of being still and assessing our lonely thought! We rather go to war with others instead of attacking the warfare within our minds. How to be still in oversaturated, a digital world filled with microwaveable thoughts? Many people are afraid of being alone with their thoughts. Hence, why many people sleep with the television on. Always in need of a distraction because we are literally afraid of inner and lonely thoughts! We need to silence the negative chatter and focus prosperous thoughts and attracting prosperous people.

Coaching question: When a particular thought enters into your mind, how do you react? Do you over-think it? If so get out of your head and enter into your heart and listen to your intuition? Write down feelings, emotions, and triggers?

Thank you for reading Brown Girl From Boston!

Stop Killing Your Vibe: 4 Ways to be Creative with Courage

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” — Maya Angelou

Day in and day out we give ourselves permission and others to kill our creative vibe. Many times we limit us to discover our life's passion and purpose. We stand in our own way when it come to self-exploration of our deepest passion and life's purpose. We also give permission to others to label us and what we should be doing and take their opinions of our life and continue to live in a dark place in order to please others while we are dumbing our standards and expectation of our greatness.

Drea's Confession of this past week: I held myself and mind captive and allow unnecessary things and people killed my creative vibe. I had to sit in my feelings, de-clutter my mind from the mucky and mess and get reconnected to my purpose which is to serve, uplight, empower and encourage my readers especially my brown girls find their way! The ugly truth, I open Pandora's Box and had to face some hard truths about being this stuck this week. I hope this blog post will help those who are stuck temporarily help you to understand, listen and bring about a solution to press forward to spark the creativity.

I am sure many of you are curious to know how I broke free from my creative vibe killer, with the help of being around my girls from Girl Scouts', discovering and downloading new and old music while blasting it on a sunny and warm Friday, I was happy, liberated and enjoyed the creativity vibes. We all go through some kind of mental block but we must figure out a way to go from being stuck to unstuck.

This week I challenge you to tapping into your creativity with courage. Listen to your innermost desires and reconstruct your thoughts. Here's how:

1. Set limitations and healthy boundaries: We live in an ADHD society in which we are bombarded by a million thoughts, TV shows, gossip, negativity and vibe killers. Many times, we don't have boundaries that protect ourselves or our thoughts. We must set healthy boundaries with ourselves and others. We cannot be everything to everyone. We must be FLY (First Love Yourself) before we can love others. When we are constantly trying to be everything to everyone, we become bitter, on the verge of burnout, and confused. Stop giving permission to those who are vibe killers and protect you and your creativity. What boundaries do you need to create today in order for you to become unstuck?

2. Leave Work at Work : Your home should be your peaceful, safe haven. Many of us are undercover workaholics. We are identifies by our jobs and titles, we talk about our jobs, clients, and work drama while we are out with friends and families. If you are constantly complaining about your work, coworkers, clients and work environment, more than likely you are not happy. Maybe your 9 to 5 is killing your creativity vibe and you need to turn your thoughts around. Start discovering your innermost passion and start working on how to turn your passion into profit.

3. Stop being a party pooper: There is nothing wrong with being a homebody and enjoy the comforts of your home but when you are existing rather than living that is a true sign that your creative vibe is being killed slowly. Stop being a party pooper and enjoy live. Try a new activity, go to a festival, try a new restaurant, listen to a different genre of music, go and experience something new. Stop rejecting new things and start embracing new experiences. Have fun and be the life of the party for once.

4. Be still: Going back to #1, we live in an ADHD society in which people don't know how to be still in the hustle and bustle of world. As human beings in 2014, we always preoccupied with our next unknown move. That's a shame that we must unplug from reality to be still. We are sensitive to being wired and plugged to others day in and day out. Take at least 15-30 minutes a day to unplug from society. Get out the house, ask your sister-friend out for coffee and face to face conversation, read, lay on your coach in silence and just sit with your thoughts. Being still is so important and beautiful because the higher being/God will reveal some powerful stuff to you. When you are constantly bombarded by stuff, your vibe and energy will be killed.

My challenge to you this week: I want you to be creative with courage. Say no to people and things that no longer serve or uplift you. Say no to limiting beliefs about yourself. You can live your life boldly and out loud. Evaluate each lesson from 1-4 above. Do your life reflect one or all of these things? If so, are you what changes are you willing to make to discover your innermost passion and life's purpose? Jot down what your ideal scenario/day would look like once your to transition your thoughts.

Leave your comments, I'd love to hear from you!

XOXO,

Drea
