Get Paid, Not Played: Free Mini Business Plan for Creatives, Social Entrepreneurs and Side Hustlers

Hey Tribe, I have created a free and simply mini business plan that should help all creative and social entrepreneurs to map out your side hustle/small business needs.
1. Your WHY/Mission/Vision- In order for you to upstart your side hustle/small business, you need to know why you are starting in the first place. This is called storytelling/your pitch. People usually connect with you due to your story. We all have a story to share and when you are in business, people want to know your story and you need to know your why. Take a few minutes to think about your why and write it down.
2. #Goals #Goals #Goal: You should have personal goals, professional goals and business goals. These goals will help you and your business to grow. When you sit down to write your goals think BIG because this is "Do or Die" time when starting and growing a business. Don't shrink yourself or your goals. You goals should consist of happiness. How much money do you want your business to make? Location-free business? International business? Local business? This is when you are going to explore your goals, write them down, develop a timeline, 3-5 action plans to achieve goals and get it in. No shortcuts. No shrinking your greatness. Make sure your goals are achievable and realistic.
3. Who is your business for? Your target market? This piece of business is very pertinent because you need to research, know your customer, can they afford your services/products, see your customer before they see you, solve their problems, understand their goals, know where they shop, their hopes, dreams, and etc. You need to flush out this section. Be very descriptive. Give your ideal customer a name. Gender. Where do they live? What do they drive? Martial status? Educational status? Location? Traveler? Nationality? Ethnicity? Music genre of choice? How much do they make? Brands they love? Personality? What they do for a living? What are some things they hope and dream? Volunteer? This will help you to know your customer and start creating products and services based on what you have wrote down.
4. Social Media Platforms/Where are your customers? Do they like social media? Are they on Facebook? IG? Have Twitter fingers? Pinterest? Snapchat? Love emails? Love text message? Where do you clients communicate the most on?
5. What are your services/products? Do you have affordable pricing? Have you sent out surveys and received feedback back? Focus groups? Giveaways and contests? Appropriate labeling? Why should anyone purchase your services/products? How many streams of income can you create from your products/services?
6. Outside Activity: Do you attend vending events? Networking events? Have business cards? Go to conferences? Public speaker? Enter pitching contests? Participate in your local incubators? Chamber of Commerce? ETC
7. How much coins do you need to start your business/side hustle? There are plenty of grants you can apply to start your business. You have loans, micro loans and other kind of business loans. Do you have a separate business account? Can you start your business right now without any funding or funding from your own pockets?
This mini business plan should keep you business. This is the primarily stage to see how to operate your side hustle with a plan and vision.
Please share this mini business plan with your fellow side hustlers, creatives, and social entrepreneurs. Let's get paid and not played for our creativity.

Money Making Drea: Why I'm Leary on Partnerships and Collaborations

"Feeling like I'm money making Mitch, in the store like I'm broke baby
Forgetting all that I got on, ain't my ropes crazy?
I'm in this bitch looking like I sell dope baby
To these women, I sell hope baby" -Skyzoo, The Moment That Matter

Recently, I have been struggling with whom to trust when it comes to partnerships and collaborations.  I like working alone because I know that if things don't pan out, I have to take full accountability and responsibility for the failure which is okay. I am starting to fall back on jumping into partnerships and collaborations for numerous reasons in which I will get into soon. From the start, I always cringed when we had to do random projects in school with a group of folks who you and I know some wasn't going to pull their weight and some who were in it wholeheartedly. I am the person who is in it to win and get this grade, B.I remember being in groups in graduate school with a good friend, but he was lazy as hell but still received the same grade as the rest of the group with their half-ass attempt on collaborating and bringing half-ass ideas that were already established from the beginning.

As Brown Girl From Boston is steadily building, people are coming out the cut wanting to collaborate and partner with BGFB. I cringe, I contemplate, and I slowly say yes and I am quick to say no as well. First, I have been burnt numerous of times while collaborating with others.  I decided to say yes to collaboration and the person and their "brilliant ideas" turn to black. I heard excuses, broken commitments, no call, no show, and the list continues. I tend to be a patient and understanding but when one no call, no show turns into a consist no call and no show or my favorite deal breaker is when they have decided to start and work on other projects and fail to market, promote and abandon the entire project, we have worked on without communicating the "Why." The majority of the time, I can tell when a person's motivation and momentum died off due to them not promoting the project, liking and commenting on your social media marketing, not returning emails or forgetting to return a call or text numerous of times. Well, I am here to shut all that nonsense down and proclaim a new day. I am doing things a lot different this time around.

Here is my #MoneyMakingMonday Tip on Partnerships and Collaborations:
  • "Be careful and mindful on collaborations and partnerships in business. If someone is interested in partnering with your business, have lunch with them and see where their mind and business are at. Check their portfolio to see the quality of work and who have they've worked with and possibly do a reference check.
  • Make sure both of your businesses are in alignment with one another. Make sure that your business partner is bringing quality, commitment, and consistency to the table. Put everything in writing to protect both of your businesses. Communicate clearly, concisely and regularly versus communicating irregular and irrational." -Drea, Brown Girl From Boston
  • Don't try to sell me empty promises, non-commitment, and fill my head up with "Sis, let's make this money" because I am not buying it. Just because you see me over here working,  building, healing, and transforming lives doesn't mean you are invited to the party just yet. You have to show up and show out if you truly want to work with me. This goes for family members and so-called friends. I put my heart and soul into my business affairs and have no time for folks trying to make money off my hard word. So, if you want to really make money, make a difference, and transform lives together, let's go to lunch, let's look at one another's portfolio and body of work, provide me some of your previous partnerships' contact information to see about your work ethic, let me tap into my intuition to feel it this is the right fit, let me get to know you before we jump into a partnership. Yes, Boo if you are going into partnership with me, we are getting to know one another well before I make a commitment. Along with that commitment, we are going to sign contracts that will detail our roles in the partnership and what we are committed to bringing to the partnership. No more, my word is bond, you are my sistah-friend and let's get this money. Nah, B! I am protecting my business and protecting my neck.
  • Partnerships and collaborations should be an evenly yoked situation. It should help cross-promote brands, build one another up, and compliment one another skills, strengths, and passions. It should be a win-win situation rather than it be a win-lose situation in which one person fulfills their duties while the other person's reap the benefits from the hard-working partner.

So, let's get this money, B, and cheers to Money Making Monday! How do you feel about partnerships and collaborations? Do you jump into partnerships or do you take your time to get the know the person and their business before you say yes or no?

Peace, Love, and FLYness,
Drea

#MoneyMakingMonday: Ready, Set, Launch

‪#‎MondayMakingMonday‬: Stop prematurely launching your business/side hustle without an action plan. Just like a hot mixtape/album, you have to strategically plan to drop it. Launching your business is no different. Stop with the "sign up for my newsletter to be notified of the launch of my business which is coming soon" and it never comes.
"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

Are You Ready to Start Your Startup?

Hey FLYness,

Happy Sunday. I hope you are truly enjoying your Sunday. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday. I have run in my third 5k marathon this year. Today, I ran in the Color Run 5k and it was fun, colorful and happy. They call it the happiest 5k and all I witnessed was happy people in the place to be. I was extremely happy to witness my hometown football team, The New England Patriots put a whopping on the Jacksonville Jaguars (51-17)! Sorry to all my Jaguars fans!

I hope you did something amazing and out of the box this weekend.

I know so many are dreading that it is Sunday evening knowing that Monday is a few hours away. I understand that many people are living for the weekend because they absolutely despise their jobs, despise their supervisor, despite being the only Black person, despite not getting paid the salary you deserve while you are building someone else's empires and goals. You despise being treated unfairly and take the emotional and psychological abuse because you have the paid the bills and have a livelihood to maintain. Did you know that workplace abuse is more common than ever and people don't report it? Did you know that internalizing that abuse and mistreatment at the workplace cause more havoc on your health then being unemployed?

You have to ask yourself why are you tolerating living life in a bubble? Why are you not maximizing your full potential? When are you going to say goodbye to your 9 to 5? How long are you going to moan, groan, do the ugly cry every Sunday evening because Monday is right around the corner and you have to deal with that abusive environment? Stop settling for a JOB (Just Over Broke) and start saying goodbye to your 9 to 5 by starting your startup.

Instead of daydreaming and wishing for financial independence and career independence, let's get you set up for your dream job of running your own business. Start Your Startup is a five-week group coaching program that will jumpstart or restructure your existing startup.

Are you ready to Start Your Startup?

Have a peaceful and restful Sunday and an amazing week, FLYness!

Be FLY, Love Yourself, Love Others and be the light!

Love and Light,
Drea
