Dear Sis, There is Life After A Hardship

Sis, don't allow society or bitter people to tell you what or who you can't have. There is love after 40. There is love after a breakup or divorce. You don't have to chase anyone. Work on your healing, love yourself, enjoy your life, find your happiness, and stop listening to people who have ill intentions for you. The dating pool doesn’t have pee or poop; you just have to upgrade your mind, circle, type, and environment. When you start healing, you will break that pattern of attracting the same person/energy with a different name. How do I know there’s life and love after a divorce and 40? I've manifested it by healing my hurt, pain, and unresolved trauma. I put the work in and did a lot of praying (not Ciara’s prayer 🤣/Drea’s prayer)!

Ensure you are good and ready to receive the added love and happiness. God is going to bless you with what you need. That man might be in your presence, but you don't think he is your “type,” and you friend-zone that man. Having a preference is okay, but sometimes your “type” can block you from your blessings.

Don't Forget Who You Are!!

"Don't forget who you are
Don't forget who you are
You're blessed with it
Baby, so marvelous
No one likes you; just look around
Yeah, you're too strong to turn around" -Don't Forget Who You Are, Common ft. PJ

If you have been following my life via social media, I have experienced a spiritual awakening, radical acceptance, self-love, and holistic upgrade since November 2020. I would say the glow-up and grow-up occurred since the beginning of 2020. Still, I have really tapped into the awakening since November when I found myself in victim consciousness of being in a full-blown breakdown of being abandoned, neglected, alone, and broken. There is always beauty in the struggle of experiencing breakdowns, breakups, and breakthroughs. Some moments I've lived out loud, some moments I suffered in silence, and some moments I just laid there and allowed life to happen to me. At first, I was numb and uninterested in the healing process because I am a healer, which was not supposed to happen to me. I was like God, Fam, this ain't it and what I got in return....a whole paradigm and spiritual shift...instantly. Honey, I had my edges, eyebrows, lashes, and everything snatched. All I could do was laugh, pray, sit in it, cry, isolate, and allow life to happen to me. Rinse. Wash. Repeat.

Here are a few lessons and blessings I have experienced along the way:
I remember how dope, awesome, fly and blessed I’m truly am. I’m so tapped into the healing process that I get overwhelmed with the unlimited downloads and synchronicities God provides. Each day, I find myself being truly unbothered by things that bother me and disrupt my entire day.

                                            My healing process includes:
👸🏾Being in therapy despite being a therapist and Professor (we go through it)” because we are flawed but still worthy)
🙏🏾Praying and meditating have upgraded my entire life. Upgrade your spirituality and develop your own relationship with God!
✍🏾 Journaling saved my life and evolved my personal growth and development.
🗣 Speaking and standing in my truth. Speaking from my heart.
Mirror Work and Affirmation work definitely helped me tap into my divine feminine and heal the invisible scars!

Brown Girl Affirmation: I am worthy of a beautiful life. I am awesome and deserve all the amazing things that I am manifesting!

When you self-mastery inner peace, happiness, spirituality, and self-love, you exude it from the inside to the outside. You can rock new clothes, lashes, dope accessories, have a dope career, and more, but if your inner soul and spirit are in conflict, you can forget having peace in your life.
☮️ Master peace instead of being in pieces.
✨Allow your light and confidence to be contagious.
👸🏾Enjoy the journey of who you are becoming.

SN: Shout out to my tribe for who is rocking with my vibe. Y'all have been putting up with me, celebrating me, loving me, and rocking with me even when I couldn't tolerate or love myself. I am deeply grateful for all of y'all. I love y'all from the bottom of my heart and soul!
SNN: I gotta give Common props for blessing us with some amazing music within the last year and a half. Go check out Let Love and A Beautiful Revolution (Pt 1). These two albums, along with my solo dance parties, are life!

Keep It Simple, Sis For the New Year

Happy New Year, Tribe! It's been a minute since I've posted because I've been going through the holistic struggle of 2020 like everyone else. I had to take a deep assessment of myself and take time to heal by throwing myself in therapy, take time away from coaching, and took a solo trip, which I will blog about another time. I am back in full effect, and we got some dope things on deck for 2021.

But here are some things that  I have decided to do. I've decided to keep my life very simple after dealing with a complicated and complex year(s) added to my invisible scars. This year I have decided to tap inward and reconstruct and unlearn things that weren’t serving me. Things I’m finally letting go of:
👸🏾Perfectionism
👸🏾Living A Pretty Lie
👸🏾Escaping reality and feelings by throwing myself into projects and work
👸🏾Self-Sabotaging and Self-sacrificing to uphold an individual and collective image

I’m over it. Surrendering it. Releasing control. I’m holistically exhausted, but at peace with my decisions. Healing sucks. Healing is scary. Healing is liberating. I’m up for the challenge, and it’s onward and upward from here. I may ugly cry my way through the healing process, but I have to evolve for me. I am too dope to stay unhealed.

What are your personal intentions for the New Year?

Much love and light to the Tribe!

My Biggest Aha Moment!

"I just got hit with the biggest aha moment known to mankind." -Drea Camille

God has a sense of humor and I discovered it today while making breakfast. Yes, during breakfast!  I was recreating a delicious and healthy breakfast that I had in Reston, Virginia this past weekend in my own kitchen in Providence. While preparing my breakfast, I was talking to myself and of course to God. I uttered my infamous and most common question to myself and God, "What is my purpose and who do you want me to serve?" As soon as I asked my question loudly, three individuals were revealed to me. Two of my friends from undergraduate and graduate school and one of my dear friends here in Providence.

Now let me give you the commonality of my three friends and myself. First, we are all college educated with at least a master degree, we are all within our late twenties and early thirties, young professionals, and African Americans. My three friends live in various places, one live in Birmingham, AL, one in Houston, Texas and the other in Providence, Rhode Island where I reside as well. I also forgot to mention that all four of us have or currently experiencing underemployment, unemployment or over-employment (over-qualified for one's person).  Let me remind you that none of my friends that I have mentioned know one another but we are interconnected through our friendship, education status, and employment status. Let me digress and stick with the subject matter!

Yesterday, two out of three of my friends called me for some coaching, conversation and comedy. I call it the three Cs from Drea. In both conversations, I went into both blindly not knowing that both conversations with two friends who only connection they have are knowing me was the same story of the struggle of unemployment.  *Disclaimer* Both conversations, I had yesterday were with my guy friends. Men usually don't discuss their emotions and feelings centering around losing something. They usually withdraw or deny their feelings. I must commend these two guys because they allowed me in their hearts and explore their vulnerabilities.

Both of my friends were both laid off from their well respected jobs within this year. Both dealing with the loss, picking up the pieces and receiving moral support from me. Yesterday, was the most I ever talked on the phone in a while to two people. LOL! While talking to my friends, I realize that these guys are so courageous, strong, and resilient for telling me their struggle in regard to being laid off. I even disclose to them my battle with chronic unemployment  within the last five years which led me to starting my first business as a professional resume writer in 2010 while living in Chicago. I encouraged them both to start thinking of alternative ways to generate income in the meantime to sustain their livelihood.

The moral to the blog post is that I went through my experience for a reason.  My purpose in life is to assist women and men of color who are young professionals, over achiever,  college educated to maximize their potential to live out loud and boldly by recognizing their God given talents, gifts and strengths. We are not taught in college nor in society to go after our dreams and passions. We are taught to be conformist and think instead the box.  I realize that I had to get out of my own way, stop over-analyzing, and share my story to people who are going through a temporary, tough time. I am thankful to God because without asking him the questions of  "what's my purpose", I wouldn't have recognize my purpose nor realize that I am serving people my tribe of people already.

"Be still and know that I am God." -Psalm 46:10

Thank you for reading Brown Girl From Boston! Please feel free to comment, share your aha moment, or simple say hello. Look forward to hearing from you all.

Drea,
XOXO
